Ibiza Gastronomy
The best products from the land
The island is justifiably proud of its restaurant culture. The Mediterranean Sea and the availability of fresh fish, combined with the influence of the many cultures that have been represented on the island, all contribute to a wide and varied choice of restaurants. Try some of the following specialities:
Fish dishes such as "bullit de peix" ( very tasty stewed fish and potatoes), "ensalada de crostes" ( a special salad made of hard bread and dried fish) or paella are a must. Two more specialities are "sobrassada" and "botifarró" (two local kinds of spicy sausage). And for sure, don't pass up the opportunity of trying any of the island's pastries and desserts- and we're not talking about the typical "ensaimada" (spiral-shaped pastry) you can buy at the airport on your last day to take home, but to the real treasures of Ibizan gastronomy: "flaó" (sweet cheese and mint cake), "greixonera" (caramel-bread pudding) and "orelletes" (lemon and sugar-flavoured pastries).
Excellent restaurants are to be found in all of the smaller coves around the island and Ibiza town has restaurants of every possible type especially around the harbour/Dalt Vila area and Botafoc .
