Ibiza Markets: The Es Canar Market
Zone hotelsDescription
The small market is open daily from 10.00 a.m until 6.00 p.m. between April and October. If you are an early or late summer season traveller it would be best to check with your hotel that the market is still open. A lot of hotels offer trips from the hotel and will make you a small picnic to take with you. When the hippies decided on Es Canar in the 70's, it was only a field at the end of Santa Eulalia del Rio. Years later came the built up area which gave rise to the market. The market is put up in the early hours of the morning and runs to more than 400 stalls. It is the largest market to take place on the island.
Although the market has lost some of its initial gloss from the early days where all the traders were artisans who came to the market to sell their wares, today it continues to be a curious place to visit, to come across some extravagant bric a brac, to buy some typically Ibizan clothing, or to get a piercing or a tattoo done.
The market is open from 6 p.m in the evening, which allows you all day to enjoy the area and run around its outskirts, like for example, taking a dip on the beach only 300 metres away from the market itself.
