Zona: d'en Bossa Beach - Es Vivé

Description

The natural park of Ses Salines is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty and as such has been legally protected by Act of Parliament of the Balearics since 2001.

The park is a fine example of the richness of Mediterranean biodiversity. A natural area comprising more than 2.000 hectares, it encompasses a conglomeration of land and marine habitats of ecological, countryside, historical  and cultural value of the highest grade on an international scale.

It includes a representation of almost every ecosystem to be found in Eivissa with special mention made of the marsh. Ornithology stands out amidst the fauna, especially flamencos , which live there all the year round. The ideal time to take all this in is in August and September.

These communities of different habitats together form the collection of ecosystems known as Ses Salines. In reality, in Ses Salines you can discover practically the whole gamut of natural systems which are to be found in the Pitiüses islands.

This heterogeneity makes for the presence of a great number of species, vegetable as well as animal, and its importance has been recognised internationally. An early morning visit is recommended, before the sun heats up and when all the birds can be seen. During the trip the salt mountain of Can Gorra will impress you, this is where they pile up all the salt which is collected by the tanks and where excess water is dried off. It is then loaded into boats which come to purchase it, especially Nordic countries that use it for salting fish.
